Busaba Eathai, a modern Thai eatery famous in London is now open at JBR, the WALK. Busaba means flower and Eathai is a fusion between eat and Thai. They have a flavorful selection of freshly prepared salads, stir fries, curries, noodles and Thai specialized desserts. In addition to this they also serve grilled meats and fish. You love Thai food, you love spice, you love the beach then this is the place to be. I thought we Indians could bear any spice but I now have double thoughts after experiencing the spice here…

The interior is very stylish and elegant. I love the lights which really given an effect to the entire restaurant. The restaurant terrace and balcony give you the best views of the JBR beach. So the restaurant had more occupancy on the outside than on the inside. We sat inside in their cozy casual dining seats. You see lot of ceiling fans here sticking to their tradition. Ever since central air conditioning, Fans are the past in Dubai so good to see them again somewhere and lots of them.

The mocktails were a little different. It didn’t come with the sweetness and love I expected. The drink like the Grapefruit mojito was a spicy one. Felt the mocktails here would be good at detoxification. The Salad was super spicy but at the same it was irrepressible in taste. You really enjoy it but you can’t have them all together. The beauty of the oranges are realized in this spicy salad.

The small plate of appetizer is highly recommended to begin with. It’s got a little bit of everything except for their famous calamari. So we go that separately. The two hot sellers of Busaba Eathai in London which is the Calamari and Pandan chicken wasn’t really catchy to me although I really enjoyed unwrapping and unveiling of the chicken from it’s pandan leaf. What really impressed me were the chicken Satay and fried bread prawns. The vegetable spring rolls were nice and crispy. The appetizers came with a set of dippers which spiced up the taste of the tantalizing appetizers.

Busaba Eathai is very good at their traditional mains. The wok noodle, Beef Stir fry and the Railway fried rice were all mind blowing. You begin to appreciate thai food and these are some of the must tries here, specially the Pad Kewtio(Wok Noodle) which was flavourful.

Red snapper - dhs 99 - with chilli sauce
Red snapper – dhs 99 – with chilli sauce

One of the big mistakes I made here was by ordering the Cod Fish. Although it was the best looking dish on the table, it just wasn’t as enticing I expected. Firstly to my disappointment it turned out to be a deep fried fish. Had it been grilled I probably would have enjoyed it more. The marination on the fish was also not very convincing. I am sure they could bring out a better flavour than this one.

Thai Roti – Dhs 20

The Jungle chicken curry is the only chicken curry without coconut milk from the list of curries in their main menu. All the other curries come thick and nice. We just thought we’ll have it light this time. But I strongly suggest their thick curries which are well known at Busaba Eathai specially the green chicken curry. The rotis were divine. Hot and crispy. They remind you of the typical indian rotis but one level better that you keep asking for more. These are actually deep fried rotis but you don’t realize that oil in it so you continue having more of it with no guilt 🙂

The colorful desserts were beautiful looking. The Thai cheese cake was the best out of the lot, simply delightful. It’s those biscuit kind crumbs on top that make it special. All desserts are made in house. The Ginger lime brulee was a little different from the usual cream brulee but unfortunately the ginger dominates the taste in such a level that you are not able enjoy the sweetness expected from the dessert. The ice cream sorbets were very natural tasting with unique flavours which you don’t find otherwise and the best tasting for me was the red guava flavour.

Ginger tea with honey - dhs 17
Ginger tea with honey served with cashew nut and coconut cookie – dhs 17

Busaba Eathai server original tea which is of high quality, natural and exquisite in taste. The ginger tea with honey was really good. I thought it would be flavoured tea but here they make it from scratch. There was real honey given along with ginger made tea. The crunchy cashew nut and coconut cookie comes as a company with your tea order. At Busaba Eathai, they do the very best to give you an authentic experience.
