QD’s – Iftar tent

After years of passing by Dubai Golf and Yacht Club I finally managed to land here for an Iftar. At a restaurant by the name QD’s. Normally it’s an open restaurant but this time for ramadan and considering the heat the entire restaurant is now inside a tent. The daily Iftar buffet offers a selection of traditional hot and cold Arabic mezze, rustic soups and Middle Eastern and international main courses and gourmet desserts with selected juices and traditional Arabic sweets and dates.

Prices for their buffet is

  • AED 145 per person (buffet, water and selected juices)
  • AED 65 per child (between 6 to 12 years)

Besides eating at their Iftar menu you also get to try their signature shishas and they had what I very much needed during this time which is wide screens showing the Football world cup LIVE. Yes, you won’t miss a scene as they have giant projectors, LCDs from all angles so you can enjoy the match no matter where you sit in this restaurant. What’s important is they offer you shisha as well so if you are one of those then nothing like it. It’s a great timing too. You break your fast at 07:15pm and by the time it’s 08:00pm you are ready and energetic to watch and shout for your team.

You need to grab the seats close to the windows if you want to enjoy the view of the creek and have your meal. But we preferred to choose the seats which had better angles to the giant screen. It’s been a busy ramadan with that Football world cup coming in the way. I have been shamelessly trying to watch as many matches as I can. Luckily my office hours are from 11:30 to 18:30 so I have the liberty even to watch the late night match :D. Normally I just watch the first half of the 08:00pm(dxb time) match and after which I leave for prayers. It’s the midnight match I get to see completely 🙂

They had different type of seatings and chairs for you. My favourite were those cozy wide chairs were you could sit back, relax and watch the game on their big screen which was placed in the center of the restaurant. It’s like dream come true where you have the best match to watch backed by good food and ambience. QD’s Iftar buffet is also inclusive of tea/coffee at the end of your meal.

I had a good start to my Iftar with their wide range of hot and cold mezzeh. They had a good selection of salads too. I’d say this was the best part(Hot and cold mezzeh) for me at Iftar. My pick from the Hot Mezzeh would be their spinach Fatayer. If you enjoy fatayers like me then can’t ask for more as they had fatayers with more than one kind of stuffing :). Ramdan juices mainly were Kamer Aldin, Laban and Jalab. I didn’t try all of it but i remember enjoying the jalab very much and so did my guests like it when they sampled from my glass 🙂

Maincourse wasn’t as shining as their HOT and COLD mezzeh. However there were a few items that caught my attention. I loved their lamb ouzi. It looked very fresh and just cut! Ofcourse when you see the demand for it you would also want to have a piece of it. Almost everyone made a stop at the ouzi space. The picture on top says it all 😉 There was this fish cake shaped in the form of cutlet which was actually hammour and that tasted the best from their maincourse. There was a shawarma booth where you could make your own shawarma which I thought was the least moving. Did see Biriyani as well but already over my limit. I felt their sheesh taouk needed some improvement. It could have been a little more tender 🙁

I was in total love with their jumbo sized fries. They did have a specific name for it but I can’t recall. I used to very much admire the spud fries at Burger fuel but this ones even better. Every time I went to refill my plate I always would pass through the desserts which were beautifully displayed and just couldn’t wait to have them….

From their desserts Muhallabia was a good one and so were the arabic baklavas. The Arabic baklavas were fresh and crisp. It was mainly arabic desserts I had the most from here. They also had an interesting item filled in small shot glasses called the energy shot which was mainly a composition of milk, dates, bananas which I thought was delicious. All that cheese was the flop from this section which was the cheese cake and the cheese konafa. But the rest of it were good enough to be happy with.
