Tribes, a casual dining restaurant that transports you to the world of Africa. A decked up African themed restaurant with traditional music played in the background, African style cooking, culturally dressed waiters, seats comforted by animal skin and even LIVE African entertainment! This will also be my first post where I have purely used iphone for taking pictures and also will be my first post with videos, simply because I think some of the experience here deserved a video.
Tribes is located in between PFchangs and Asha’s, below the new Apple store at MAll of Emirates. The moment you enter the restaurant you know you are entering into an African restaurant. You have good options to sit and specially love the chairs that have the animal like fur around it. During our dinner, they also played us an impressive LIVE performance of african beats which was a well done performance by their own staff.
Just before we started they gave us the complimentary freshly baked walnut and date bread. This was just fantastic. It came warm and crispy. Good enough that we could easily finish the whole bread. Then came the majestic pre-feast platter. It had all the specialties to entice you. There were mainly 3 seafood items and 3 chicken items. Each item was very different from each other and this a signature platter that you must try at Tribes if possible. My favourite pick would be the pan fried chilli & garlic prawns 😉
Besides the platter, we also tried a traditional african dish which was the spicy lamb rump steaks. The lamb was extremely tender and had a fantastic marination that I could not stop appreciating each time I chewed the meat. The hanging mixed grill skewers was an all in one, it had 3 different meats which was chicken, beef and lamb. The meats where chunky and cooked so well that it’s brings the beast out of you.
The desserts amazed us. The way it was presented to us with the tricks of liquid nitrogen was very special. Sweet tribal feast has all of their specialties packed in one plate, so this is a good choice if you have a good appetite for desserts. The melk tart and chocolate malva pudding would be the African specialty. The Malva pudding looked very similar to a molten chocolate cake but it was a very different kind of a dessert. I felt they could add a little more chocolate to the chocolate Malva pudding to make it more rich in taste. This sweet platter from Tribes is too sweet to be true.
