Have you ever heard of a restaurant by Lexus? I was surprised to hear this as well but we now have one at DIFC(Dubai International Financial Centre). The second one in the world by Lexus after the first one in Tokyo and there’s a third one coming up in New York soon. They say Intersect by Lexus is a space between home and office. For the first time, you can actually feel the luxury of Lexus without being inside a Lexus automobile. Here by no means they want you to be a car enthusiast but rather it’s a perfect spot for those who believe in design, art and fashion.
The location itself was a perfect one. I felt the gate village at DIFC is the perfect place for a brand like Intersect by Lexus. Most people who enter Intersect land directly into their garage admiring the Lexus concept car which teases you from down the stairs. The whole of Intersect architecture is inspired by Japanese design and also designed by the famous interior designer Masamichi Katayama. Every part of Intersect has a touch of Lexus design to it. For example, you will notice the entire restaurant is covered by the signature Lexus spindle grill made from bamboo. The flooring has Lexus tyre marks. The seat materials used is the same leather found in Lexus automobiles. You can also buy souvenirs which are exclusively designed by Japanese artists with a touch of modern craftsmanship. For example like one of the items the coffee mugs on sale are made by blending local volcanic ash into the glaze. They also have a library which you won’t miss, books that talk about great design, art, fashion etc. The book I spent time with would talk about the design philosophy of Lexus cars.
The complimentary lentil hummus that came along our main order was mesmerizing. Never had this kind of hummus before and was simply delightful especially when you dip that freshly made walnut bread into lentil hummus. They don’t have a mocktail menu and the bar tender just made us a random combination of mocktail. It was nothing special though. I think they need to work on good looking and tasting mocktails which can reflect their first class luxury lounge. Probably the mocktail was the only thing that didn’t entice me here.
The pumpkin and orange soup was excellent and was lovely to have in this cold weather. The Kale and avocado salad was one of a kind. The linseed wafer and fresh kale was the best part for me in it. It was a heavy salad but every bit of it was lip smacking good. The scallop was nice but was too little that it finished before I could even realize 🙁
The 36 hours cooked beef short ribs were succulent and full of flavour. The short beef ribs are marinated and tightly sealed for many hours for the marination to be rightly absorbed into the meat and the efforts were quite evident in these awesome mouthwatering tender short ribs. The new zealand wagyu beef was again really good and appetizing but I still couldn’t take my mind of the short ribs. The Chilean seabass was light in taste which was mainly glazed in onion puree had a nice soft taste to it. All their mains super good, I really can’t complain of any.
You should definitely try this Syphon brewed coffee to experience the brewing technique. It’s a class of chemistry actually where the coffee is brewed right on your table. Initially the water from the bottom gets heated and goes on top where then we mix it with fine coffee which then comes down filtered. The whole process took around 7 mins. The 22 dhs Syphon Coffee serves upto 3 people. You respect this drink totally after you see the true effort put into the making of this hot coffee.
Their Hazelnut chocolate cake was heavenly. Thick and rich chocolate ganache that would wake up your chocolate senses. The cheesecake which came with a touch of ginger poached pear was ok. Highly recommend you to go for the hazelnut chocolate cake without fail.
