Last week we spent our weekend at a five star hotel Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort which is located close to the famous Sir Bani Yas Island. The drive from Dubai is approximately 4 hours. This would be ideal if you wanted to be far away from the city and long drives are your passion. The area is quiet and peaceful. The good part about Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort is that it is a beachfront resort. Every room at Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort is facing the beautiful ocean of the Arabian Gulf. Early morning sunrise and sunset is a breath taking sight. Besides regular rooms they also have private waterfront villas, as small as even one bedroom villas with your own private lawn.
Unlike other resorts the pricing for their rooms is a little different. It’s higher during weekdays and cheaper during the weekend which is good for us. I guess this is because they are having lot of corporate programs during the weekdays in the hotel. A deluxe room should cost around Dhs 700 during the weekend and the same deluxe room during the weekday would cost around dhs 1400(almost double). A one bedroom villa would cost anywhere between Dhs 2400 to 2800. Price isn’t much of a difference if you are going in for a villa.
It took us approximately 4 hours to reach the Resort. In between it’s a bit scary specially when google maps get confused and you are the only one driving to that direction. Ensure you are on full tank petrol before you start your journey to and from the hotel else you might regret when you no more see petrol stations for a few good kms in the desert. The welcome drink(lime juice) served at our arrival at hotel was very inviting specially after a long drive. It was a kind gesture by the hotel. We were immediately checked in and taken to our room.
We were in the most affordable deluxe room of Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort. This room does not have a balcony but does offer a superb view of the sea. We were delighted to see the welcome treat in our room with macarons, chocolate dipped strawberries, arabic baklawas and chocolate cake. The room is nice and cozy with carpet flooring. You can also choose the kind of pillow you would want for the night from their menu selection.
The room has a 32 inch LCD TV and a DVD Player where you could use some of the complimentary DVDs provided by the hotel on request. The only problem being their collection is quite outdated. So we decided to catch up on some of the hollywood all time classic hits such as Matrix and God Father. The room get’s really cold in the night and it’s lovely to be wrapped in their quilt and feather pillows. Staying next to the sea you definitely hear noise of the ocean in the night specially when winds are at a high.
Once we refreshed ourselves in our room we rushed down for lunch below to their all day dining restaurant called Tides. It’s the happening restaurant in Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort. The restaurant is spacious and had a buffet selection for lunch. What I loved most was the large collection of meats and seafood which could be selected and taken to the Chef to have it freshly grilled your way. There is LIVE music that is being played on the background. The crowd was just perfect in size to the restaurant. The arabic hot mezze and some of their chocolate desserts were delightful.
The Resort had lot of complimentary activities for their guests. Kids would be very happy being here having their own kids club which had almost everything they could imagine to play in it. Outdoors they also had a dedicated play area with swings, slides and rides facing the beach.
They have separate space for basketball, beach football, beach volleyball, professional tennis courts, squash court. They even provide all the amenities to play like the racquets and ball. All sports activities are complimentary but you just need to make sure your carry your sports outfit to this resort. If you are not wearing the right sportswear then you are not allowed to play in their sporting facility like tennis, squash even if you are wearing the right sports shoe. As per the resort it seems to be a law by the regulators which they are abide to follow to avoid any fines.
We did have a nice massage. They have different types of Massages to choose from like the Swedish, Thai, Shiatsu, Deep tissue, Balinese, Herbal compress, Indian head massage, Ayurvedic, Lymphatic drainage, Reflexology massage with an average massage price for 60 mins being around Dhs 300.
For breakfast once again we were at the Tides restaurant. They had Arabic, Asian and English breakfast. The croissants, the indian vadas with chutney, sausage puffs scored well for breakfast here. Breakfast hours are from 06:30am to 10:30am.
They had temperature controlled swimming pool for both adults and kids. The swimming pool is located next to the beach. The beach of Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort was pretty long and it was nice to sit in their beach and sip a nice hot coffee feeling the cold wind and breeze from the sea shore. Kids were busy making sand castles and collecting the best looking sea shells.
The resort also provides additional activities for a fee such as the tour to Sir Bani Yas Island, AbuDhabi city tour, Desert overnight, Liwa Desert Safari as a part of their resort activities for an additional fee if needed. For sea activities like Boat ride, fishing trip, Sir Bani Yas Island Tour, water skiing, wind surfing you really need to pray that climate is with you and water currents are not too strong for them to cancel the show. In our case, we were unlucky as the winds were quite strong that day and the sea was literally roaring that we had to cancel our planned boat trip.
