When it comes to SUVs, there is no doubt the Range Rover is the ultimate. The luxury, prestige, comfort, innovation, technology is in a different level and makes Range Rover a favourite for many and often is proudly owned by the wealthy. But for those who are desperate to have one of these can begin with a smaller version of the distinctively designed vogue called the Range Rover Evoque. Range Rover Evoque starts at a price of AED 189,000 and the with additional features added the vehicle featured is priced at AED 269,000.
Under the hood of this Range Rover Evoque is the LR-I4 Turbocharged 2.0 Litre Petrol engine which generates around 236 hp and can touch 0-100 kms in 7.8 secs. The current engine is 20kgs lighter than the earlier generation engine. You can easily feel the aggression of this vehicle every time you step on the pedal. It comes with Nine-Speed automatic transmission which complements the vehicle’s all-terrain capabilities. You can select the mode of driving such as General Driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud & Ruts and Sand.
Driving technologies such as the active driveline is quite interesting and handy reducing fuel consumption by automatically disconnecting from four wheel to two wheel drive depending on the situation such as a change in surface or acceleration. If you really study the capabilities of this vehicle you know why Range Rover is one of the best when it comes to off roading. Every time you cross a flood water, the dept of water is measured using its sensors and it would provide you with real time information on the touch screen for you to take appropriate action. Even little factors are taken into consideration such as avoiding vehicle from over accelerating when coming down a hill, the vehicle would automatically hold the brakes and release gradually for you while it starts to incline so you are in control. When you drive across different slopes, the car would automatically assist the driver to be in control of the car by applying brake to particular wheels thereby maintaining a slow moving constant speed.
Some of the other features would be:
- Speed Proportional Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS)
- Emergency Brake Assist (EBA),
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), - Dynamic Stability Control
(DSC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), - Hill Descent Control (HDC®),
- Terrain Response®,
- Roll Stability Control (RSC), Efficient Driveline,
- Traction Control System (TCS)
- Trailer Stability Assist (TSA)
In the Evoque for driver AID, you will once again find a ton of useful features. From the list below the one that was useful the most was the Traffic Sign Recognition which actually notifies on the windshield of the speed limit that needs to maintained on the existing road. It basically captures the traffic speed limit mentioned on the sign board and keeps it displayed on the drivers windshield until it finds another one. Quite useful as we often forget the speed limits when you drive such performance cars. Some of the Other Driver Aid features would be:
- FULL PARK ASSIST
- SURROUND CAMERA SYSTEM.
- BLIND SPOT MONITORING
- LANE KEEP ASSIST WITH DRIVER CONDITION MONITOR
- ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
- TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION
The moment you sit in the Range Rover Evoque you admire the quality of the materials used. The center console is simple but the interior is elegant with a premium finish. There are many options for you when it comes to personalizing the interiors with a combination of aluminum, stitched leather, wood veener, color, ambient lighting etc. The twin stitched leather seats are super comfortable.
The InControl Touch Pro is the Range Rover’s next generation infotainment system. The 10″ inch screen is a touch display and what I liked most about it is the split screen option which was quite handy at times. But I would still stay the touch quality and display still has a long way to go when you compare it with the quality of the iphones. The ambient lighting in the car is not limited to just one color but you have an option of around 5 colors. I was amazed at the projected welcome light projected next to the door of the Range Rover Evoque. A display that speaks a 1000 words of impression.
The instrument cluster is not digital but straight forward and simple. The sports steering wheel of the Range Rover Evoque is comfortable to hold and has a beautiful grip. The gear knob is the coolest experience, which is actually the same concept borrowed from the Jaguar. When you start the vehicle the gear knob pops up and when you switch off the car it goes inward. You turn the knob to switch to different modes of driving.
The fully sized panoramic roof gives passengers a wonderful experience with a sense of space and wide views of the beautiful skyline, driving in Dubai you enjoy the views of the high rise towers and buildings on your way. The only unfortunate part, it is a FIXED panoramic roof which wouldn’t allow you to open the roof on a nice day.
The trunk space of the Range Rover Evoque is good enough to keep you happy but the leg space for the back passengers is limited. I could actually feel my legs wanting to stretch in the Evoque after sometime while I was in the back seat. There is no surprise about it as it was expected to be a compact version of the vogue.
