Makan is a Middle Eastern restaurant that gives you an experience of luxury, comfort and where traditional Arabic food is blended with sophistication to attract anyone. Makan tries to elevate your experience with it’s plush interiors, smoking, non-smoking areas, great service, live entertainment and food that comes stylish on a plate.
Located at La Mer beach, the interiors blends to the situation by having it casual on the outside and elegant on the inside. The interior is definitely GRAND! You are going to love the seats and high ceilings of the restaurant. It has a royal touch. Ground floor is the non smoking area and upstairs is the smoking area. You can be smoking inside the air conditioned room or in the balcony with beautiful views of La Mer.
We did have a fantastic start thanks to the trio Mix hummus and hot breads. There was three kind of hummus which was Plain, Avocado and Beiruti style with parsley. The best from the trio was the Hummus Beiruti which had an additional touch of lemon, garlic, parsley that made it finger licking good.
The Makan Salad felt fresh as ever. The almond shrimps was unique, the giant fried shrimps which was studded with almonds along with it’s dipper can only be irresistible. The crispy chips was fun to be eating with melted cheese. It’s the melted cheese that’s the real magic which does the trick that you want to keep having it. It’s a perfect companion when you are watching a sport game here. And they do have big screens at Makan, so make sure you watch your next match here and order this one.
The tall fresh juice drink that came for 4 was definitely worth it. Ofcourse the passion fruit mojito and chia seed strawberry had it’s undeniable taste but sharing a jug of fresh juice at a meal was a neat idea. By the way, I thought the chia seeds strawberry drink was different and not a drink you find everywhere, but quiet heavy on your appetite.
They have some great collection of mains in their menu. I need to say that they need to improve the look of their menu page, they can start by adding some high quality pictures to it. For seafood we picked the catch of the day which was a sea bream cut into butterfly style and stuffed with fresh vegetables. The fish tasted fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We then had a special dish called Parda Plaw which was vegetable rice filled with nuts and meat covered in a savoury pastry. But the meat in the Parda Plaw is too tiny and little to know, I think they should add a little more meat to it. The beef shawarma was amazing and the crispy fries that came along with it was even better. One of the best fries you can ask for!
Their signature dessert is a must try which is the Brownie Bel Dalla. It’s a hot brownie enclosed by a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The cold natural tasting ice cream and the hot brownie were a great combination and of great quality. It’s good for sharing. The Arabic dessert was also pleasant by not being so sweet but I wouldn’t call it the best I’ve had. Click pictures below to see them in full screen view:
