Iftar at GurkanSef is a set menu with a combination of 3 cold starters, 3 hot starters, Salad, Iftaryelik, one main and a dessert. You get big bottle of water and unlimited Turkish tea as a part of beverage in the Iftar package.
The Iftariyelik board gave us a pleasant start to our Iftar. A combination of dates, dry fruits, olives, cold beef cuts, cheese, cucumber, date paste. From this board my favorite would be their cheese and dates paste. The date paste was rich and enticing every time you have it. The more you dip, the more you want it. The dates provided in the board were of good quality too. It would be have been good if they had included fruits as well but they serve it as a dessert after meal.
The hot lentil soup was really nice and delicious. They also serve you in a nice hearty bowl, good enough to satisfy your need for a good soup. The salad you see below is simply a cut of cucumbers and tomatoes mainly, soaked in pomegranate and olives oil dressing. A healthy and rejuvenating one but if you don’t enjoy tomatoes, you might just give up on this soon.
The hot starter Su Boregi never disappoints. There was only a slight hint of cheese felt in between the thick layers of pastry. And this thick Su Boregi can easily fill you up. The stuffed leaves came different here, the stuffing in the leaves wasn’t the usual rice but meat! It was different and enjoyed every bite of these meat stuffed chard rolls.
They provide 3 amazing dippers. I’ve add hummus and mouthabal plenty of times but yet again, Gurkan Sef comes out with out with their own freshness and flavors. Just loved the quality in them. The best in the lot would easily be their yoghurt based dipper which was a great coolant to the tummy and perfect companion for a fasting body. The only turn off would be they didn’t have any hot puffy breads for these lovely dippers, but instead they provided us a razor sharp grilled bread which is too stiff to chew and doesn’t help much.
Then came the ultimate attraction. A platter consisting of succulent kebab, grilled chicken topped with vegetables and a side of bulgur pilaf which is a nutritious side, made of red tomatoes, onions, green peppers, olive oil, and other spices. Talking about spices, I must also highlight the kebabs had a nice touch of spice to it. Usually the kebab we eat at other Arabic restaurants is quite bland but this one is much more flavorful, thanks to the mix of spices added to the meat.
For desserts you have the option of gulac(milk based dessert) or Fresh fruits. The cut fruits are really big and wholesome pieces but I think they should provide this healthy piece as mandatory part of the Iftar menu. They have an amazing collection of dessert and unfortunately they have only one dessert as an option which is the Gullac, if you don’t consider fruits as a dessert. The Gullac is a Turkish traditional dessert made from a similar pastry used for Su Boreg(at least it felt that way) along with milk, nuts and pomegranate. I wish they gave us more selections for desserts for their Iftar menu as they do have an amazing collections of desserts specially their baklava and homemade Sehvet.
Let’s not forget the unlimited tea that you get to drink during Iftar at Gurkan Sef. It’s a strong Turkish tea where you also have an option to have it with mint leaves. Click here to visit their official website. Click pictures below to see them in full screen view:
