Khyber – Dukes The Palm, Palm Jumeirah

Khyber Reception at Dukes Hotel
Khyber – Interiors

Khyber is a brilliant looking fine dining Indian restaurant located at Palm Jumeirah. The restaurant is located at a high rise hotel with beautiful views of Palm Jumeirah and it’s surroundings while eating a scrumptious meal of lip smacking Mughalai dishes. Khyber is a family owned business and is a well known restaurant in India. They have a long history and heritage behind the restaurant. It’s common to find celebrities in the restaurant. The interiors will speak for itself. The high end decor is a depiction of the Mughal Era and is a perfect venue to remind anyone of Indian heritage. Unfortunately the restaurant is only open from 05:00 pm onwards. They are not open for lunch unless you want to arrange a private event during this time.

The moment you enter the restaurant you are mesmerized with a unique vintage decor like never seen before. I’d say expect the unexpected when it comes to the interior. The next would be the views that you would admire standing at windows of the restaurant. They have also placed telescopes at certain points of the restaurant so that you can zoom into your view at the Palm Islands. You can also sit outside in their balcony. Classic Indian music is played in the background.

Compliments at Khyber – Pickles & Pappad
Drinks Station at Khyber
From left(AED 45 each): Mango Lassi, Rose Mojito, Jal Jeera

Like most fine dining Indian restaurant, you are offered Pickles and Pappads as complimentary along with your meal. They also offered crackers along with Pappads. Their home made green chutney and pickles has the right level of spice to enjoy.

We ordered some of their signature drinks such as the Mango Lassi and Jal Jeera. These two drinks have been really good and are definitely the ones to try. Rose Mojito tasted ordinary, It was a mocktail made from Rose syrup mainly.

Khyber Dish reaching your table
Punjabi Samosa Chaat – Crispy vegetable samosa, chickpea masala, yoghurt, tamarind chutney
Achari Paneer Tikka – Pickle flavor cottage cheese, bell pepper
Fish Tikka Hammour – Khyber’s spicy red masala
Murgh Pudina Tikka – Chicken, mild spices, fragrant mint yoghurt

Their starters were mouth watering as we saw them coming and each one of them had been brilliant. A simple Samoosa was made to look so elegant and it was very appetizing, thanks to the special chaat masala under it. The giant Paneer Tikka cubes have been delectable. You really appreciate their cooking and the quality of cheese used. The Fish Tikka Hammour was excellent, it was their signature red chili marination that makes this Tikka Hammour really good. The Fish also tasted fresh. The chicken which was mainly marinated with yoghurt was flavorful and inviting. It was obvious the starters was the best part to our dinner at Khyber.

Palak (Spinach) Paneer – Cottage cheese, onion, ginger, garlic, spinach puree

Chef at Khyber

The chef at Khyber would visit every table and ask the diners about his food, taking note of first hand feedback. The Palak Paneer was an outstanding curry from the lot we tried. It stood well out due to it’s color and unique taste. Surely Paneer fans should visit Khyber to see and taste the best of Paneer. The Chicken Tikka Masala would be our next favorite, where the curry tasted rich and the aroma that comes with the curry was just inviting. The Rogan Josh was lighter in texture and enjoyed eating those lamb pieces. You could choose a Roti or a Rice. The Plain Roti was my favorite. The naans where thick and were a bit elastic in nature and felt chewy in the mouth which I did highlight to the chef.

Indian Desserts at Khyber
Select one dessert from Khyber Summer menu
Gajar Ka Halwa – grated carrots, almond, milk
Rasmalai – Soft cottage cheese patties
Gulab Jamun
Rabri – AED 40 – sweetened milk, chopped Almond and Pistachio

They had the best of Indian desserts for selection. Each one of these were unique. Unfortunately you only get to pick one from their dessert menu like their starters and mains from their summer menu for AED 100. The Carrot Halwa had been excellent and one of the best I’d say. The Gulab Jamun was luscious, just one piece is a real teaser. The Rasmalai was spongy but the milk was less sweet compared to Gulab Jamun and Carrot Halwa. We ended our dinner with a classic Masala Chai which wasn’t disappointing either. Click here to visit their official website. Click pictures below to see them in full screen view:
