Tribes restaurant has now moved to a new location in Mall of the Emirates, closer to the cinema this time. Tribes restaurant brings in amazing flavors from Africa. It is an African specialty restaurant who excites with their tantalizing dishes, with its spices and high grade meats. Menu is very much exciting for a non-vegeterian at this restaurant. They have some very traditional dishes and for sure they have the most exciting platters ever. They’ve got platters for all sections(Starters, Mains and Desserts) which can only make you drool.
If we compare the earlier version of the restaurant located on the Ground floor, it was more dimmer. This one’s more brighter in nature. But I still prefer the old interior for it very much felt better themed to the African culture and theme. I love the menu here which comes in a leather wrapper.
It begins with their complimentary Walnut Date bread and butter. Loved every bite of this bread. It’s always been this bread at Tribes and they taste amazing. They do have a good selection of cold drinks and we picked one smoothie and a Mocktail. Surely the mocktail was pretty good which was called Dawa Cuja(AED 33) consisting of ginger, maracuja, lime, mint and sugarcane. The Yebo was more like a smoothie consisting of Acai, blueberry, mango, banana and Lychee. They also serve 100% fresh juices such as Orange, Watermelon, Apple, Carrot and Pineapple.
The Hakuna Matata Platter is a platter consisting of all their hot starters in one plate. It’s one of the most exciting starter platters to have on table. All the items on the platter is unique and varying from one another. It’s got little bit of everything which includes seafood, beef, chicken & lamb. I personally loved the pan-fried chilli garlic prawns which came with a peri-peri sauce, not spicy really but rich and addictive which makes it a teasing appetizer. The grilled calamari was more chewy, so that wasn’t something I really enjoyed. The African pie was my second favourite. It’s that heavy load of content on top of the puff pastry mainly consisting of Beef, mushroom and chicken giblet that makes it very enjoyable. It had a nice flavour to it. The lamb spring roll was crispy and enjoyable. Let’s also not forget the unique sausages that was pretty good. Overall the Hakuna Matata Platter has just been a wonderful experience.
Tribes have an excellent collection of mains starting from sandwiches, burgers, wagyu steaks, skewers, and other specialties. One of the most fascinating burgers can be found here such as the Fully loaded Beef Burger or even their Warrior Platter is a worth an attempt. We didn’t order it this time, but we could see them being ordered on the tables around us. It just looked magnificent, just as they showed off in their menu pictures. We went for their high grade Wagyu fillet and the Lamb Chops. Surely the beef was to be appreciated for it’s tenderness and juiciness. Also the spices on the lamb chops were commendable and really makes those ribs taste special. They serve some of the best quality meats here.
We didn’t want to miss anything from their dessert so went from their ALL IN ONE dessert platter which consisted mainly of 4 cakes, 2 ice creams and a lot of cut fruits. Me as usual, ignored the fruits and dived directly into the dessert plate. There were 2 interesting cheese cakes. The best dessert from the platter was surely the Baklava cheese cake, they also have another cheese cake which was rooibos tea cheesecake, not as sweet as the Baklava cheese cake and had a unique taste to it. It might not be a liking to everyone. The Malva pudding topped with caramel cream was definitely another attraction, the highlight was the caramel cream on top which was pleasantly rich and sweet in nature. There was a pistachio sponge cake which more felt like a fruit cake. The ice creams are commendable, it was homemade and of great quality and went as a great pair for their desserts. Fruits are overwhelming on the platter but you need to appreciate the good selection of fruits in it.
We ended our dinner with a good looking latte. There wasn’t coffee in it, it was blue in milk and pretty. It also came accompanied by a fine cookie. Click here to visit their official website. Click pictures to see them in full screen view:
