Cafe Isan has Thai at it’s heart. Awarded as one of the best Thai restaurants in Dubai, we cannot deny the same after we’ve tasted their offering. If you love Thai street food then this is the Cafe you need to try. The cafe delivers an authentic Thai street food like no where in Dubai. Today’s post is going to be a vegan special, as 90% of our order has been vegan. During the month of August the restaurant will be open for pickup or delivery as usual, but the dine in isn’t available due to minor renovations/upgrades in the dining area. Customers can order online through the Cafe Isan website or Deliveroo.
It’s a small restaurant located at JLT with a theme obvious to Thai street food eateries with plastic chairs and stools around. The restaurant has a nice lake view and most diners would obviously want to be sitting out in open air next to the waters if the weather is convincing enough. Otherwise the inside seating is quite tight in space and the cafe is full if 3 tables are taken. On the walls, you find lot of history and story telling of Thailand.
They have an amazing set of starters. We started with their salad which was so addictive in taste. I think it was the magic touch of tangy and sweetness that got us going for more. The veg spring rolls would be the gold standard. I would call it the ‘real’ spring roll from all that we’ve been seeing everywhere else. This is how it should be made which came crispy and every bite was just appetizing. The spring rolls are heavily loaded too. The grilled satay tofu would remind you of Indian paneer. The peanut sauce that came along with it was also a highlight. It were those moments where you appreciate vegan and it’s beauty.
The only non veg item we tried from the menu was The Colonel’s Beef noodle soup. It’s not a soup you find everywhere and we were so delighted with this soup especially with the succulent slow cooked beef in it. It was a soup filled literally with appetizing treasure with plenty of bells and whistles to cheer about. Highly recommend you to try this soup. The Thai Green curry which was vegan had a nice strong flavour and one can simply enjoy the curry by itself. The hustler in simple words had half the plate with jasmine rice and the other half filled with sauteed vegetables.
We then had the best ending to our fine lunch with Thai specialty desserts such as the sticky rice and water chestnuts with iced coconut milk. Both the desserts were satisfying. The sticky rice was made very well(probably the best we’ve had) and biting those chestnuts from the cold coconut milk was refreshing and enjoyed every spoon.
