Jones the grocer now has opened a new concept called jones social. Simply located at the lobby of Millennium Airport Hotel, a stone away from Dubai Terminal 1 airport, a convenient location for people moving in and out of the city. Jones social is all about social dining with soulful music. The kitchen is wide open for you to see all the action where incoming would be small plates, bowls, sharing platters. They still have their signature cheese bar at a corner and you can expect gorgeous dishes and brilliant drinks like the original store, but this one is even more casual.
Jones SOCIAL can simply be found at the lobby of the hotel and there are few sections to it. There’s a quiet side to laze around in their comfy leather sofa and lounge chairs, a more social side with good music (where the DJ resides), a private dining space (upstairs) for a group, drinks counter and a cheese corner. We picked the seats in the same space as the DJ where the music was crisp, clear and had a nice warm ambient lighting to set the mood for the evening. The service was generous and we were always able to catch their attention when needed.
They have good selection of drinks be it a Mocktail or a cold coffee. You can’t go wrong with any of their drinks. The best part about our Breezer mocktail was that it stood by it’s taste till end of the last sip. Usually, the taste would dilute in ICE and change over time but this drink somehow kept it’s consistency throughout. The iced latte was pretty, as you see in the picture. The complimentary toasted breads and olives comes on everyone’s table as a compliment and we all loved it. It was a Focaccia bread and I am sure all diners look forward to this one once they have it the first time.
The small plates and bowls were exciting. The molokini poke bowl was heavily loaded with it’s dressing and surely was an overwhelming experience of eating all those ingredients on top. The fresh tuna, mango and the pickled ginger were personally my favourites in the bowl which made me want more of it. The Bao was a hot item on the table. The chicken was really good in it and the chilli dressing inside it, just makes these Baos irresistible. The dipper Baba ghanoush was straight forward, although it had some twist in it. Once again we got to see the same breads which we got as compliments in the beginning, the dipper was quite a lot so we had to ask for more breads.
From the mains, surely the tender short rib was the best meat on the table for it being extremely tender and juicy. It also came with a thick sweet sauce which I assume is BBQ sauce, and along with Mash potatoes on the side the combo went very well. When it came to the Napier, the dressing was quite impressive especially the macadamia romesco. This is one of those dishes were I really enjoyed a spinach on the side too. The sides really made a difference to this dish.
We then ended our meal with a fine cheese board, there is no way we will miss eating cheese at Jones. Everything in the platter was pleasant to eat from crackers, cheese, dry fruits. Everyone skipped the grapes for some reason. We also tried a dessert which looked like a coffee on the table. You dig in and you realize it’s a heavy load of crushed LOTUS biscuits. Although the dessert said to contain chocolate creme, hazelnut, espresso, pecan salted caramel ice cream what you most feel 90% of the time would be the lotus crumbs. Probably when we reached at the bottom I began to taste the chocolate creme and caramel. I would recommend to try some other dessert such as their signature Madagascar Tart which I personally think is better.
