Bombay Bungalow is all ready to receive diners for Iftar. We were invited to try out their special Iftar menu for 2024. Their set menu would include drinks, soup, salad, dippers, starters, mains and dessert. Although being an Indian restaurant Bombay Bungalow has gone out of their traditional way to include some other specialties to suit the local taste. They have curated to create an interesting fusion of their own version of hummus with a touch of fresh mango. Actually the dippers were a highlight for us. Every table had dates and hot Arabic coffee which was being poured around. The dates were king sized and juicy. We had 3 drinks option for Iftar. The rose milk was definitely my favourite from the drinks. Jallab was also good. The fruit punch didn’t honestly have sufficient punch power to make an impression. The dippers were the best part of the start. Especially the betroot and Mango Hummus. Just amazing how they tasted and a unique creation. Moutabhal was like the original, we didn’t find any fusion in it. There was also cut fruits on the table.
Bombay Bungalow signature Lentil soup was the actual start. Delicious and refreshing for a fasting body. Fattoush was a good one. The hot starters were the real magic on the table. This was honestly the best section in the Iftar menu. Mushroom Empanada and Afghani Chicken Tikka, both were simply irresistible. You just wanted more of it. I wish we could re-fill them. The other veg starter Dahi ke kebab which came beautifully presented and was tasty too. The hot starters get full marks for their good impressions.
Hummus with meat on a tandoor bread
There is always one curry and a biriyani for the Iftar mains and they would keep changing. We were fortunate to get the lamb biriyani which was a delight. The lamb pieces in it came well cooked and had a nice flavour to it. There is also Indian raitha served as a side for the biriyani. The chicken curry went very well with different breads they offered us. Hummus with meat was definitely irresistible. It came served on top of a soft buttery naan and together it was a lovely combo.
The Iftar ends on a sweet note with a milk cake. It was like a sponge floating on a bed of sweetened milk. The sweetened milk was the best part of the dessert, the cake by itself felt dry and could have been more soaked, creamy to make it even more delicious. There is definitely room for improvement for this one as we’ve tasted better milkcakes in Dubai. Click here to visit their website. Click pictures below to see them in full screen view:
