Saturday brunch have always been exciting in Dubai. Every brunch is different, every cuisine is different and the experience you get from each brunch is also a unique one. Today we had the privilege of eating at an authentic Mexican restaurant. Honestly, it didn’t have the best entry to a brunch but the food was original and that’s what made the difference. Every bite we took and everything that came to the table was authentic and tasted great. We really could appreciate the beauty of Mexican food here. This is the restaurant to be if you want to try the original Mexican dishes. We enjoyed delicious plates of Burritos, Quesadillas, Taquitos, Nachos, Enchiladas, Tostadas, Beef & Chicken Tacos along with breakfast dishes such as the Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles. The brunch is priced at AED 250 and is happening every Saturday from 1 to 4pm. Kids eat for free. To celebrate the launch of the new brunch, they have a 2 for 1 limited time offer to enjoy until the end of May
It was one Chef running the entire show from the open cooking station. We loved the Chef for his hospitality and how he would explain and encourage us to try each of his well prepared dishes. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any list of items or pictures for the brunch. You just had to ask or be briefed individually and get them on your table. The restaurant anyway made sure that you eventually get everything on your table and don’t miss a beat at the brunch. The moment you step into the restaurant you are transported to a Mexican vibe beginning with loud music being played by a DJ. The walls had the typical Mexican wall art and lighting reflecting their culture. The table cloth had the touch of tradition too along with hosts speaking purely Mexican that we almost needed a translator between us. It’s a serious Mexican affair at CHALCO’S CANTINA.
For drinks they made us 3 fancy colorful mocktails. Each of them tasted different and just perfect with those spicy tangy Mexican dishes. So I walk to the buffet counter staring at the meats, sauces, tacos thinking where to begin and that’s when the Chef comes to rescue giving a briefing and helping us slow start the brunch. The Chef prepares everything fresh from scratch but at the same time it’s made really quick and we get to eat them hot. At the LIVE station is where the real show was happening with colorful Nachos being tossed, filled tacos being toasted and folded, the mixing and matching of different sauces and filling. Once you see how it’s being prepared, you just can’t wait to eat them.
We kick started the brunch with their mouth watering TACOS. The so called Birria Tacos was simply irresistible. The beef in it was simply addictive. The Tacos are also provided with the beef soup and pieces of lemon on the side. The sauces also play an important role in enjoying these dishes further. They also had chicken with pineapple Tacos but once you’ve had the beef you just want more of the beef Tacos. Chicken had a tandoori taste to it. Surely it was the TACOS I ate the most for the brunch. Chicken quesadillas was a great bite of cheese and chicken but it was much heavier than the Tacos and it could easily fill you up.
You would find colorful tortilla chips. Kids were just in love with them. One of my favourite dish from the brunch was the Mexican breakfast special which was the Chilaquiles verdes with eggs. We enjoyed watching the chef make it and it tasted great. Plenty of colorful Tortilla chips in it though. Enchilaldas came grand on the table, the prettiest dish on the table. It looked very special. It was very much dominated by the red sauce and I now honestly can’t remember the filling inside it. Although I remember leaving the plate empty. For desserts they didn’t have much of a collection. In simple words it was caramel pudding and rice pudding. It would have been nice to see Churros which is favourite for many. I think they can definitely UP the game in the dessert section.
