We’ve been at Wakame before, the dishes here are unique and one of the prettiest dishes you will witness on a plate. We here for dinner. The interior at Wakame was a perfect setup for a date night with a cozy warm light and a quiet atmosphere. The restaurant is spacious and has a lounge too. You could sit in this restaurant for hours and don’t even realize the time running. There were a few couples seriously talking while we were seriously eating. I honestly was struggling with my camera to get a good lighting for the food photographs to showcase the mouth watering Maki Rolls that we were enjoying tonight as they were using a dim lighting. If you are new to Sushi, don’t worry about it, as they will explain you each maki on the platter one by one.

Starters – miso soup and edamame

Our evening at Wakame started with their signature Mocktails. Pretty looking and unbelievably good. We were actually curious about their Taipei breakfast mocktail which had ingredient mentioned such as raspberry jam. It was simply a pure sweet drink which came in a Martini glass with a lemon floating in the center. They seem to have an outstanding Mixologist because each sip was so magical and addictive. The edamame was a straight forward starter at a Japanese restaurant and the miso soup felt so refreshing and good for the body. It kept us ready for the countless Makis to come.

Dragon – eel tempura, avocado, spring onion, spicy mayonnaise
Crunchy Prawn Tempura – sriracha mayonnaise, teriyaki sauce
Dragon – eel tempura, avocado, spring onion, spicy mayonnaise
Crispy California – avocado, cucumber, crabstick, yuzu mayonnaise
spicy tuna rock n’ roll – yellowfin tuna, green onion, sesame crumb, spicy kimchi sauce
Flame salmon – cucumber, avocado, jalapeno coulis, spicy salmon, mayonnaise

The Platter was so colorful with pieces of Makis with different kinds of stuffing. We just weren’t sure where to begin as they were all pretty looking. You had salmon, tuna, eel, prawns as main players, inside them along with vegetables and different kinds of sauces and mayonnaise giving you that special flavour in every bite you took. It would be unfair to pick one as a favourite as each Maki came with a different taste all together. I personally was more often after the spicy tuna and crunchy prawn tempura. The fact that you can ask for more is a different comfort of you not worrying that it’s going to be over but then again it is difficult to finish the entire collection as well. In the center was the crab salad which was lovely.

Don’t forget to save some space for dessert. The miso cheesecake is not an ordinary cheesecake, its a dense cheese cake and reminds us of a caramel fudge. This is due to the special ingredient of Miso that changes the cheesecake texture. The chocolate ice cream was even better and the combination was a good pair. I wish they had some more offering from their dessert menu.
