Seven Sands have always been my favourite spot for an authentic Emarati Experience. They do have some signature dishes that you need to try. The best way would be to try their Emarati Culinary Experience package which encompasses all of UAE favourite dishes. The menu consists of 5 Appetizers, 4 Mains and 4 Desserts, includes a mocktail and a hot drink. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the sea at JBR, The Walk and is a lovely spot for family and friends.
Although people enjoyed dining in their balcony, we thought it was freezing cold and sat somewhere in a cozy seat away from the cold wind. The culinary experience begins with a special complimentary mocktail called Jabal Hafeet(Name of a mountain in UAE). Seven Sands really make beautiful tasting cold mocktails and frappes and the word I can easily relate to with this mocktail is refreshing and comes very pretty in a glass with plenty of ice in it.
Appetizer was a combination of 2 famous Arabic cold dippers, 1 hot appetizer and 2 salads. I would say Moutabal was delightful as opposed to anywhere else. I mean you can enjoy Hummus at most places but it’s not easy to appreciate Moutabal. They make it really good here. The hot breads were made fresh and came in 2 variants, one was a classic and the other was made from Tumeric so was more yellow in color. The seven sands signature hot appetizer Shark Samousa is a rare one, you don’t often find them in other Arabic restaurants. A hot crispy fried pastry stuffed with shark meat, have it with the sweet chili dip and it’s just amazing. People who generally don’t enjoy fish, might not like as much. Salads were very different and the yact cheese on one of them was simply delicious, the green mango salad was tangy and nice.
We started our main with Harees which is again an Emarati classic. It’s an interesting dish, sometimes we even enjoy it by adding little sugar to it. Made with Lots of ghee and veal. The Chicken Fouga was two piece chicken with steamed vegetables. The chicken marination on it was very different, something new. The Fish Fouga was honestly much better. We really enjoyed the king fish and the spices on it. The best one was the Lamb dish called Aishu Lahem, staring from the rice to the succulent lamb was irresistible. This is a must have if you typically enjoy biriyani but this one’s a non spicy version, yet unbelievably good.
We then had a great stretch of Emarati desserts. Surely the sticky date pudding stood out from the crowd in taste. The toffee on the date cake so luscious that no one can ever stop eating it. The pumpkin dessert had a heavy touch of pumpkin and less sweetness. The lugaimat was hot and crispy, presented very well by adding sesame seeds and pistachios on top. They are delicious, and you finish them easily like having peanuts. What disappointed was the camel ice cream, although looked like a turkish ice cream from a distance, was never anywhere close to it. The camel ice creams also come in different flavours, this one had a touch of lemon which really didn’t go well for anyone.
We had a pleasant black tea after our wonderful dinner. What disappointed us was when they said they didn’t have karak chai or the arabic coffee to offer as they went out of stock. It was just 08:30pm when they said that, so shocked to know they went out of hot drinks especially when diners look forward to such hot drinks in this cold weather.
