The Interior is just beautiful. Although the Land Rover Discover sport is a rugged vehicle, the interiors have their soft touch and luxury feel throughout the cabin. The light Oyster/Ebony Windsor Leather Interior is a beautiful contrast and goes well with the high glossy black center console. The first impression when you look at the dashboard is the minimilist design. Simple and easy to use interface. Less clutter by just having the essential knobs and buttons. The design team worked on every aspect of the vehicle but the gear knob seems to be forgotten and outdated. It feels a little cheap to hold, as opposed to all the other materials inside the vehicle which felt superior. The titanium and chrome finishing used on the steering wheel, center console and the door handles makes a good impression on the interior. For quality sound you will find British-based MeridianTM Audio consisting of at least 10 speakers and 1 subwoofer (380W AMPLIFIER POWER).
The steering wheel feels great to hold. It fits well in your hand and is actually slim by design. The easy access controls found on the steering wheel is dynamic which actually changes as per your menu selection, innovative and rarely seen on a steering wheel control. Changing radio stations haven’t been a comfortable experience though, they definitely need to fine tune their control button sensitivity for it. You had to give it a hard press to change a station and also there was a delay, if you are a driver who often toggles between stations you might not be very happy. It would be better to see the radio stations change immediately with a soft press and no delay. Although there was a shortcut to setting speed limit on the steering wheel which is useful, but you still had to click a few + and – to get it activated, this again was more work. It should have been setting a speed limit by a single click which sets the limit based on the drivers current speed like how it works in other German cars. There is a wireless charging pad for your wireless charging mobile devices and nicely holds the device in it. The Glove compartment was quite spacious and you can could fit in anything you wanted. You will also find 2 USB port, MicroSim card slot and a 12v power socket.
One of the beauty of driving this car was the 12.3” TFT Visual Instrument Cluster. The drivers are just going to love it. The TFT display is visually clear and crisp. It works well in any light. You can customize the display to see what you want from media, trip summary, navigation, driver assistance and off road information. Overall any driver will only be delighted with this visual instrument cluster. At this price point, even though packed with features, there wasn’t any head up display. Blind spot features works well. If the vehicle detects another vehicle in your blind spot when changing lanes, it would alert the driver by illuminating an amber light on the side door mirror as well pull you back into the lane by applying certain torque to the steering wheel.
Ofcourse, the Discovery has been engineered for off roading and the driver can only be confident with a Land Rover Discovery in hand. Trailer Stability Assist automatically reduces torque or applies the brakes in response to sway, giving you greater stability when towing. Automatic settings for terrain drive will monitor your driving conditions and would select the most suitable terrain setting for your drive. Also note the options are hidden in the black glossy center console and is only visible when you press the circular knob. The center console in the Land Rover Discovery is to be appreciated for it’s quality and ease of use.
The panoramic glass roof is a joy inside the vehicle, especially the rear passengers who have a nice wide view of the sky. Almost 90% of the roof is glass and driver can open the roof shade with just a click. The vehicle wouldn’t lock if the smart key is detected inside the vehicle or if the doors are not closed properly which is a nice feature to have but the vehicle wouldn’t beep a sound or indicate there is a problem, instead it would just not lock the doors with a mute response. This I think is a drawback because the driver continuously makes an attempt thinking he didn’t press the door handle properly to lock. There are also seven airbags throughout the vehicle, and the ISOFIX and top tether brackets will support the latest and safest child seats. Located in both the front2 and rear. The ISOFIX fit points are readily accessible, making it easy to install child seats.
There is plenty of trunk space. One interesting feature would be the clear sight rear view mirror. So even if you fill up the trunk space of this vehicle to an extent where your rear view is blocked from the rear view mirror, you can still see what’s the behind the vehicle by a simple switch to the clear sight camera which gets projected into the rear view mirror itself. A very handy feature to have and surely the right way to use technology.
