Heard a lot about jones the grocer and finally we are here! Not surprised one bit why people rave about this place. Jones the grocer is a blend of a grocery store, cheese room and a cafe. We were quite impressed with the walk-in cheese room which had almost all kinds of cheese you would want. As soon as you enter jones the grocer, you are greeted by the grocery items, like the first thing we noticed was the rack of Valrhona chocolate bar selection stacked up. You will also find desserts and drinks with Valrhona chocolate. The Cafe seems be doing well as they were quite busy on a weekday. The interesting thing I noticed was that people would just come and sit for hours simply chatting on a cup of coffee and breakfast. jones the grocer seems to have built a nice ambience for a good conversation. The cafe at Al Manara branch is airy with high ceiling and natural light pouring in from the high glass walls.
They’ve got a good line up of hot and cold drinks. From cold drinks they have a selection from healthy natural drinks, fresh juices, cold pressed juices, milkshakes, sparkling organic sodas followed by frappes and iced drinks. We went for their sunrise paradise where every sip of the mocktail was refreshing, which had a blend of fruits such as mango, banana, pineapple, passion fruit, orange, strawberry. The Cafe Valrhona Mocha was too good. An elegant drink with a great balance of quality chocolate and coffee to perfectly tune you up for the day.
The toastie is a new introduction to the menu and the selections keep changing every week. Unfortunately, not all their toasties are available all week to order. You will find only two of their toastie available any day of the week. You also have the option to purchase the ingredients from the same store right away and make them from home. Now talking about the toastie, it has been an unbelievable experience. The veg toastie we tried that day which was the Kale and Gruyere toastie was delicious and incredible is all i can say. The cheese is the real magic in all these toasties, the way they just stretch and taste in your mouth is amazing. One of the best toastie you can experience. The kale also added a nice flavour to the toastie along with cheese. From the beef, we thoroughly enjoyed the Bacon triple cheese toastie. Lot of onions though, it would be a good idea to keep them lighter as they over power the beef, so much so that the beef got a lesser shine but the triple cheese on this toast was amazing. The salt beef toastie felt like it had the least cheese compared to the previous two toastie, atleast you get a closer bite of the beef and pickles and felt lighter on cheese.
Most of the desserts/cakes are visible from their front counter itself. It’s worth taking a stroll at their dessert counter, where you see colorful desserts lined up for you to choose. We tried a milkcake and cheese cake. The pretty Berry cheesecake actually didn’t taste like a typical cheesecake, it was very different. Not my kind of taste but we were in complete love with their signature milk cake dessert which is the Pistachio Milk cake. A king size dessert, worth taking pictures of it and show it off on your social wall. The milkcake is presented beautifully with a torched meringue sitting on top along with a homemade pistachio ice cream, candied pistachio pieces and plenty of pistachio sauce. Highly recommend you try the milk cake here. Click here to visit their official website. Click pictures to see them in full screen view:
