MASTI – Elephant Bath Brunch – AED 250 – Downtown Dubai

It’s been sometime we’ve posted on a Saturday brunch. No better place to visit than at a brand new restaurant at a brand new Address hotel. Masti has always mesmerized us ever since we visited them the first time at La Mer, be it the ambience, menu, interiors. It’s Indian cuisine but with a twist, rather say modern Indian cuisine which comes with a blend of classic and modern flavors in one plate. There is an elephant brunch on Saturdays consisting of cold starters, hot starters, mains and a selection of dessert along with a drink of your choice. It was more than just good food, we enjoyed the vibe at the restaurant that made it perfect stop for a weekend.

Live Entertainment at Masti Elephant Brunch

Firstly, The new Dubai Edition hotel has a stunning lobby. As soon as you step inside the hotel, you stare at their swirling stairs and it’s high ceiling with unique arches that just potrays modern architecture. Inside this hotel, is the all new MASTI which has actually shifted from LaMer to Downtown Dubai. The restaurant is colorful, filled with plants in every corner, the attendants were all in a safari suit ready to treat us at the elephant brunch. With live music in the background playing throughout the brunch, the coloful tone of the restaurant, busy bartenders, lots of laugher around you, all set the right tone for a great weekend vibe while you brunch at your table.

Mocktails at Elephant Brunch
Virgin Mojito

For the brunch you get one selection from each section and all of us made sure to pick different ones so we get to try most of what they have to offer. It all begins with mocktails. For non alcoholic package, they can offer any kind of mocktail. By default they have the Virgin Mojito and a Mumbai mocktail which is mainly an iced tea. For Mojito, they can make anything for you, be it virgin, strawberry, passion fruit etc. Try not to sit next to the drinks station as the bartender is quite busy and it could get quite noisy with him constantly shaking and mixing the drinks as well as a chance of some drops reaching your table. Nevertheless we enjoyed the Passion fruit Mojito very much and highly recommend to try it if you are on the non-acaholic package.

Tuna Bhel Tartare – guacamole, nylon sev
Dal Pakwan – yellow lentil, chutney dressing, crisp papdi

Cold Starters

We started off with their amazing sour dough bread which was warm and just perfect in the mouth. This one comes as a standard starter on every table, no selection needed for this one. Then came from our selection, the pani puri with a twist which had avocados and pomegranate in them which was different from the usual ingredients that you find inside them, so we poured ourselves and enjoyed each one of them. Also note how the pani puri was presented. Tuna tartare had a touch of indian bhel which still didn’t lose the original taste of tartare and was delicious. The lentil curry was outstanding, we just loved the quality of the dal curry which was thick and nice, having it along with its crispy papdi was just the right combination.

Chicken Momos – Yuzu Rasam – steam momo, spicy South Indian soup
MESSY CHICKEN TIKKA – charcoal roasted spicychicken tikka, tomato-chili caramel, togarashi potatoes
Smokey Chipotle paneer tikka – chootage cheese marinated in chipotle sauce, tandoor cook, tamarind chili sauce

Hot starters

We loved the hot starters, they were mesmerizing especially the giant Paneer tikka and the chicken tikka for its chili caramel sauce, some interesting combinations that gives a new palatable experience. The chicken momos came with rasam as a side which was surprising. The rasam by itself was really good, but I thought along with the momos it didn’t do any magic like the other dishes on the brunch menu. I’d honestly say the chicken momos was our least favorite dish from all our picks. The tamarind chili sauce went very well with the king sized paneer tikka and is worth a pick from the list. The Vada Bao looked very enticing, as we saw them on other tables but didn’t try it though.

Buratta butter chicken – charcoal roasted chicken tikka, makhani sauce, burrata cheese, plain naan

Beef Rengdang – slow cooked beef in fiery sauce, roti canai
Beef Rengdang – slow cooked beef in fiery sauce, roti canai
Chungdi Malai Prawns curry – grilled prawns, warm spice coconut curry, steam rice

Mains

Except for the biriyani, we tried all other non-veg dishes available in the menu which was chicken, beef and prawns. Each one of these dishes had their own tastes and speciality. All these 3 curries came with their perfect pair like the grilled Prawns was accompanied by steamed rice, The burrata butter chicken accompanied by hot naan and slow cooked beef with Indian style paratha. The best part about choosing the butter chicken would be the added burrata cheesy effect while you try to scoop the chicken. The grilled prawns was soaked in a nice mildly spiced coconut curry that was just irresistible that I could easily enjoy it like a soup. Ofcourse, the grilled prawns were magnificent by itself. A good size to keep you happy. Personal favorite was the slow cooked beef, I just thought everything was just perfect. The beef was really tender, the thick gravy of it was simply luscious and that flaky paratha made it even better.

Desserts at Elephant Brunch Masti
Lemon curd-vanilla cheesecake – vanilla ice cream, granola
Peanut butter Kulfi – black cardamom sorbet, sea salt
Chocolate & The Tribe dessert – coffee creme, lemon honey ganache, vanilla ice cream, coffee espuma, cocoa crunch, roasted hazelnuts

Desserts

They had 3 unusual desserts. Never seen these combinations before. Easily, the lemon curd vanilla cheese cake was the favorite for everyone on the table and that finished like a flash. When you hear peanut butter kulfi, you expect the cold ice to be peanut butter flavoured, but instead it turns out to be a dark cardamom sorbet that dominates the experience which in reality does not give the zest of a real kulfi but that said the soft honey comb looking texture that came along with the cardamom sorbet was pleasant in taste especially when you touch upon those spaces which has a feeling like dulce de leche. The cardamom sorbet might also not be in everyone’s taste. If you generally don’t enjoy a sorbet then this might not be the one for you. The chocolate dessert had an alcohol contained baileys ice cream which we swapped for a vanilla ice cream. Although there wasn’t much of chocolate experience but rather the lemon honey ganache with vanilla ice cream was the best part for me. The desserts have been really different here but I’d say it could get better.
