We’ve been to many restaurants in Dubai but nothing like the ordering experience at Mu-Kii. Every table gets an ipad where you scroll, select and place your order. If you’ve picked the all you can eat concept like us then you continue to order for the next 2.5 hours with 4 items per person every 15 mins. There is no waiter taking your order at Mu-Kii. The order from the ipad is directly sent to the kitchen the moment you hit the order button. An innovative and exciting way of dining at a restaurant. I think it’s first of a kind in Dubai, I don’t remember seeing this concept anywhere else.
MU-Kii serves mainly authentic Japanese delicacies. You can pick items from categories such as:
- SUSHI/MAKI/NIGIRI
- SALADS/SOUPS/NOODLES/RICE
- WARM DISHES
- FROM THE GRILL
- DESSERTS
Unfortunately no drinks come with the offer.
The restaurant is located at the heart of JBR, Pavilion at THE BEACH. The seatings are quite open like in the food court but comfortable and elegant. I wish they had some more privacy at the restaurant. At the entrance of the restaurant, you are greeted by cute mini sized sumo action figures. The restaurant is definitely a stand out for it’s king sized space at the Pavilion.
After we placed the order on the ipad, the first thing we realized is that it does not necessarily come in order. Whatever is ready first just comes rolling out of the kitchen straight to your table. So just expect anything to come first to your table as you continue to place order. It’s going to be a busy and exciting 2.5 hours. We started off with the cold items in the menu along with their wonderful TOM YAM soup within the first few rounds. It was just perfect for the cold weather outside. Also at Mu-Kii you discover a lot more collection of Nigiri, I don’t think we’ve seen this much of a range otherwise. It’s good to be sporting and try to taste as much as you can from their large collection. You can’t go wrong with anything you try. The cold spinach starter was really nice and different in taste. From the non-alcoholic beverage, just go with their strawberry or passionfruit mocktail and most interesting would be the cute frozen ice cube bear sitting on top of your drink.
warm dishes – Gyoza and Tempura
The warm dishes, especially the grills were amazing. Beef and lamb were just outstanding. This is where you find the real deal and value for their lunch offering at Mu-Kii. Imagine the number of times you can re-order and eat those succulent lamb chops and rib eye beef for no additional price. It’s definitely a steal deal. The beef bacon wrapped around that asparagus was something special and is a must try from the menu. From the skewers it was the beef and shrimps that stole the show for me. There is a lot more you can try and highly encourage all of you to visit and have the experience.
You don’t have a wide range of desserts. It’s mainly ice creams and fried banana. Ofcourse, there were just enough for a sweet ending as we were anyway overwhelmed ordering at Mu-Kii today. They don’t have the hot drinks covered but we did get to end it with a nice cup of hot matcha milk tea and green tea which was a perfect ending to our fine lunch at Mu-Kii JBR.
