Zawyet Maryam is just the kind of restaurant you need to visit if you love eating Middle Eastern cuisine. Arabic food never tasted so good. A cute little restaurant at JLT that serves tantalizing Levantine dishes at high standards and doesn’t compromise on quality. They have a simple two page menu but food tastes wonderful here and you can only come out of the restaurant satisfied.
It’s a small restaurant with a cute decor. At a proper glance you realize there is a story to tell by the decor of the restaurant. Design and decor will also remind you of their heritage, little artifacts can be found hanging from the ceiling of the restaurant. The restaurant is fenced by it’s glass wall allowing plenty of light into the restaurant and loved their wooden table and chairs. The restaurant is very inviting and is easy to be staring around the restaurant looking at their artifacts while we waited for our order.
They bake hot breads right in front of you and it’s pretty quick. We must admit it was one of the best Moutabal to try. Been having them for years now but never like this one. The drinks have been fabulous. They looked so pure in it’s glass. Both the fruit cocktail and Ayran have been impressive, they both were thick and every sip was a burst of freshness.
The Fattoush salad was a pack of leaves and the dressing on it was really good that made this salad very enticing. The cheesy Maryam special Manakish was a premium Manakish which was soft with heavy stuffing of cheese and olives which makes it thick as a flat pillow. This Manakish can easily fill you up and is definitely a heavy meal.
They also specialize in shawarmas and they have some lip smacking shawarmas on their menu list. Both beef and chicken shawarmas have been delicious. I highly recommend to go for the mixed version so you get the best of both worlds. Underneath the shawarma meat was a bed of rice. Typical Arabic rice that went well with the meats and once you add sauces(tomato and yoghurt) they add more flavor to the meal. Shawarma bowl mix also came with a mini salad. The homemade burger specialty would be their homemade patty in it.
They have desserts the Arabic way. One of the recommended one to try would be their Nutella Saj which was a thick spread of Nutella on hot thin Saj. Nutella just taste wonderful in this hot Saj. Their famous dessert would be knafeh bel kaak which to be honest wasn’t really upto our expectation. Felt more bread than knafeh or let’s say the bread was overpowering the knafeh. I think if there is anywhere Zawyet Maryam could get better would be their dessert section, by introducing many more tempting desserts in their menu because Middle Eastern desserts are one of a kind and they surely can find some tempting ones to fit in their menu.
