The Evoque is designed and engineered in Britain and they made sure to leave a mark by having the British print on the wheel caps as well the seats. From the outside the SUV has an interesting design where the bottom half of the roof is slanted down. This particular model comes with a black exterior high gloss package where the tailgate script, grille, side fender, front and rear bumper lower valance and mirror caps are all finished in Gloss Black for an assertive appearance. The front LED headlights are even slimmer which gives a sharp appearance to the vehicle. The electronic door handles of the Evoque will seamlessly space into the body and would automatically pop in and out as you need them.

The combination of maroon looking leather and gray interior is just beautiful. Most of the buttons and knob is now virtually inside the 10″ touchscreen available in the center, which gives the center cabin a clean look. It’s a dual touch screen and both touch screen can be used separately, so you could be navigating on one screen, while the media is being controlled from the bottom screen. Talking about the touch screen quality, it’s not super responsive and there is still some scope for improvement. The only dedicated knob found on the center would be for media and AC vents and I am glad they have dedicated buttons for the AC and media which is quite handy. The knob for AC vents are big and a delight to use. You will also find few door mounted stylish speakers which comes with a dual channel subwoofer. The vehicle has Apple Carplay but your mobile phone needs to be wired directly to a usb and doesn’t work wireless.

Inside the armrest

The space in the center has a tricky space for compartment. Just below the lower screen there is a hidden space to store your immediate accessories which is pretty neat and doesn’t make the dashboard look messy. There is also a slit space that can hold coins or cards. Under the drivers armrest you have a simcard tray as well as USB interfaces to connect your mobile phone for apple play and even charge them. There is a tray provided which sits on top of the cup holders. The design is quite clumsy here as you pretty much have to move around this tray when using the cup holders. It would have made more sense to have a tray that can slide in and out as you need it.

The seats are comfortable and if you notice carefully they have a British flag design on their seats. There is sufficient leg space for rare passengers, I think partially it has to do with the design of the front seats on how they curve from behind. The rear vent is pretty standard but it has different variants of power available to use. There is also an accessory mount available for the rear passengers where they can connect their tablet and even a usb port next to it to have it charged. They could even have a coat hanger on the mount but these mountable accessories need to be purchased separately. All 3 seats in the rear seats can also be pulled down to increase the boot space. The panoramic glass roof is fixed, so no opening possible but a pleasure. There is also a blind spot alert for the doors, so incase there is a vehicle passing by you get an alert on your door, so you know to wait before opening. This safety alert is available on all four doors.

The interactive driver display is one of the best instrument cluster you can find in a vehicle. You can have different layouts and choose what information you would like to see. The information such as navigation, phone, media, safety can be shown to the driver in many ways. It was thrilling to see an entire map in full screen mode on the instrument cluster. There is also a head up display which can show speed, gear position and navigation directions, although head-up display is not the best we’ve seen. The rear view mirror is an interesting one whereby with a flick of a switch you can bypass the entire obstruction such as the rear passenger, bigger luggages and see a LIVE digital display, providing the driver with better sense of the road behind. Switching between the mirror and digital display is effortless.

The driving technology is what makes the Evoque unique from rest of the SUV out there. The ability to maneuver this vehicle off road is just amazing. They have different pre-set driving modes:

ALL WHEEL DRIVE
The system intelligently controls torque distribution between the front and rear axle via an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. Drive torque
is distributed across the front and rear axle to fully utilize the available traction from all four tyres.

TERRAIN RESPONSE 2
This features an automatic setting which monitors the current driving conditions and systematically selects the most suitable terrain setting.

ALL TERRAIN PROGRESS CONTROL (ATPC)
All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) enables you to set
and maintain a steady speed in conditions such as slippery surfaces, including: mud, wet grass, ice, snow and dirt roads. Operating like a conventional cruise control system but at low speed.

HILL DESCENT CONTROL
Land Rover‘s patented Hill Descent Control (HDC) assists the driver with the controlled descents of difficult slopes. It does so by maintaining a constant speed and applying braking separately to each wheel.

Hill Launch Assist
Hill Launch Assist ensures the vehicle doesn‘t roll backwards as it pulls away on an incline. The vehicle also utilises Gradient Release Control, which is designed to prevent the vehicle accelerating too quickly on a steep incline when the driver releases the brake.

LOW TRACTION LAUNCH Providing you with optimum torque control when you move off from a standstill, Low Traction Launch enhances capability in slippery conditions like wet grass, snow and ice.

CLEARSIGHT GROUND VIEW
This feature displays a camera view of the front underside of the vehicle onto the large central Touchscreen – in normal circumstances this area would be invisible to the driver but ClearSight Ground View effectively makes it possible to ‘see through’ the bonnet. This helps you to be aware of any obstructions such as rocks or low walls and manoeuvre safely around them.

WADE SENSING
Unique to Land Rover, optional Wade Sensing uses ultrasonic sensors in the door mirrors
to visually and audibly alert the driver if the water approaches the vehicle‘s class-leading wading depth of up to 600mm. It does so by providing real-time pictorial information via
the Touchscreen about its depth in relation to the vehicle and its maximum wading capability.

360° SURROUND CAMERA2
360 Surround Camera uses four digital cameras discretely placed around the vehicle, providing a 360° bird’s-eye view on the Touchscreen.
