Al-Lusitano – Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

Here’s our first post from Dubai Expo. An exclusive restaurant which you can only find and experience at Dubai Expo. Al-Lusitano is a Portuguese restaurant found above the Portuguese pavilion spearheaded by celeberity Chef Chakall. Just incase if you don’t know him yet, Chef Chakall has already cooked for the world’s famous footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo on multiple occasions. Chef Chakall has also authored a few books too. So expect nothing less at Al-Lusitano, it’s a fine dining restaurant serving modern Portuguese cuisine. They are also try to import and use ingredients as much as possible from their home country which makes their menu premium and exclusive tasting. We were fortunate to be invited to try their 7 course menu prepared by Chef Hans Neuner(Michelan star chef) and Chef Chakall , so let me proudly showcase what we ate during our dinner at Al-Lusitano.

Firstly the menu was designed to go with wines. so if you don’t drink a wine, then it’s water. There wasn’t any option for mocktails, it was just an option between wine and water. so strict was the thought process behind the harmony of the menu being served. So I obviously had to settle with water, while others enjoyed their fine Portuguese wine.

The decor has been cozy and tried to reflect the Portuguese heritage. One of the most notable highlight of the decor was the floating fishes on the walls which was a pretty sight by itself. They also have a wide spacious balcony facing the Jubilee stage were most of the action happen in the evening at Dubai Expo. You get to see LIVE personalities on stage without any hurdle while you are at the terrace of this restaurant. The weather was really cold last night, so we actually decided to move inside the restaurant for a warmer experience midway our dinner. The 7 course meal did takes it’s sweet on time to reach our table, so it’s a good place if you want to spend some quality time with your partner because the ambience looked just right for it.

It all began with their premium starter which was the Cavier. It had a nice zesty taste to it which is what I really enjoyed in it. The Anchor was purely light with tomato, mushroom and basil. One thing you appreciate is the display of the dish. It’s come like a form of art on your plate. It wasn’t a lot to eat but it makes a good impression with new taste for your palate is what I realized. We had four kinds of fishes tonight with each of them tasting very different from the other. I never imagined to be eating king fish with a mango ice cream and pine apple, but here I am enjoying eating it. This is what I meant when I said they give you a totally different experience, a dish that rejuvenates your taste buds by innovative cooking. My favorite for the night would be the fried Octopus. It was simply mesmerizing. I usually stay away from it but this one just tasted irresistible. The sauces and dressings do play a big deal when it comes to adding flavours to their dishes and they really make an impact as you have them. I can clearly tell Al-Lusitano offers a unique taste to your taste buds and is an interesting restaurant to visit if want something fancy.
