The fourth generation BMW X5 impresses us with it’s innovation, design, comfort and size. There are lot of changes in the new X5 and the new owners can only be proud of it. The BMW X5 now has a better ability to venture off road with driving technology built into the system. From design and technology perspective, most of those that we see in the BMW 7 series is now found inside this all new BMW X5. The new BMW X5 is bigger than the previous generation, thereby able to create more space for the rear passengers this time.
Pricing
The new BMW X5 (Exclusive mode) 6 cylinder is selling at AED 326,000, x40i with M Sport package would cost around AED 360,000 inclusive 5 years/100,000 kms free service/repair. The vehicle which is being tested is an 8 cylinder(xdrive50i) with M sport package available at AED 436,000 inclusive 5 years/100,000 kms free service/repair

The front of the BMW X5 makes a great statement with it’s distinctive headlights as well as the large one-piece kidney grille. The active Kidney grille is used for engine cooling and aerodynamics. The Grille has bars and flaps in the lower air intake that automatically swing open whenever additional cooling air is required. This system activates depending on several temperature thresholds as well as the speed of the vehicle.
The new BMW Laserlights have a unique design that illuminate a range of up to 500m(earlier limited to 300m), which is nearly twice as far as that of conventional headlights. Better visibility and improved light distribution is noticed. Also love the blue X signature between the headlights which gives it a futuristic look.
X5 is Significantly larger than its predecessor:

The moment you enter the vehicle, you will just call it beautiful. The interior is wrapped in leather and wooden accent. The ambient lighting creates an elegant atmosphere in the vehicle. Wireless charging comes standard but what was interesting to see was the cooling and heating cup holders. The temperature control is activated via buttons on the left and right. An ambient light indicates the function (blue for cooling or red for heating). BMW Cockpit consists of a 12.3″ Control Display and a fully digital 12.3‘‘ instrument display. 12.3 control display in touch sensitive as well.
The real head turner would be the crystal gear knob. One of a kind and never have seen that design coming. Perfectly matches the theme of the car and takes luxury design to the next level. I believe they can still improve the gear knob by having a better material on the back side of the knob. When you hold the gear knob, your fingers tend to feel the back of the gear knob which is plastic, so if they could wrap that area with leather or so, it would add to a fantastic feel. All the essential buttons and the cursor controls are placed next to the gear knob which makes it easier in reach for the driver. The Driving Experience Control offers the driver the choice between the standard COMFORT mode, ECO PRO Mode, geared towards efficiency, and SPORT mode, which enables even more dynamic driving. The new interactive function Adaptive Mode continuously adjusts the Dynamic Damper Control, the steering and the Steptronic transmission to suit the current driving situation. The Black Sport leather steering wheel with a thick rim and contoured thumb rests has an exceptionally pleasant, high-grip feel.

Headup Display has been improved with larger display and more information. The instrument panels are just beautiful. The lighting is crisp and clear at any sunlight. I thought the fuel gauge indicator could be better. The fuel level is not easily noticed, I am sure they can be a better design in graphic.

The X5 can raise its ride height by up to 40 mm for off-roading, or lower it by up to 40 mm for loading the cargo hold.
The center control center of the BMX X5 has an innovative operating concept. Operations are made easier with hand gestures, speech, touch screen. BMW gesture control is one of our favourites. Certain functions can be operated by means of defined hand movements. Gestures such as swiping and pointing will trigger a function such as accepting/ rejecting calls, increasing/decreasing volumes, change channels etc. Touch display is very useful when you use the navigation system. You can scribble on the tracker next to the gear knob to locate the point of interest in it’s navigation system.
The Massage options in this vehicle is really nice with eight different massages ranging from shoulder, lumbar, back, upper body, and full body massages in the driver and passenger sides. The intensity level can also be increased by 3 levels but honestly you need to use it at the highest intensity to actually feel it. Behind the front seat you find the charging port for your mobile phone.The same charging port including a usb port is also available inside the drivers armrest.
Seven Seater:
- Optional third row of seats offers two additional seats; comfortable entry and exit feature will have electrically forward-tilting second-row seats.
The rear passengers have a manually operated roller sun blind for the rear side windows for additional privacy. Felt the mirror inside the sun visor was too small a size, they should increase the size of the mirror.
There is a soft close door feature. A partially closed door will be shut automatically by pulling silently the door inward. The vents are also available on the sides for the rear passengers.
The Paranomic glass roof is now increased by 23 percent in the new X5. The Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof creates a generous sense of open space during the day while at night it lends an atmospheric mood with integrated LED light graphic consisting of more than 15,000 light elements. The light design can be switched between six ambient light colour. The Ambient lighting with six colors includes welcome light carpet and dynamic interior lighting.
The comfort Access system opens all the vehicle doors when you just reach the vehicle. All vehicle doors just open without even taking the key out of your pocket. the tailgate can be opened and closed without even being touched with a quick wave of the foot under the rear bumper but then again you need practice to get it right. The upper and the lower tailgate of the X5 is electrically operated. So the two piece tail gate makes it easier for access and loading of the luggage. Boot capacity is 645 – 1860 litres. The boot can also be electrically lowered.
