MASTI is a modern Indian restaurant located at La Mer Dubai. An Indian restaurant which sets itself a class apart for it’s plush interiors, exquisite food and drinks. The food here has been as beautiful as the restaurant. The so called Elephant bath weekend brunch from MASTI is about having a great time with friends on a playful note with Live Music, food to share, unlimited drinks & a brunch that runs till late evening, which makes it a long weekend affair on a brunch note.
Brunch Hours: Fridays & Saturdays: 2:00pm – 6:00pm (every Friday and Saturday)
The restaurant has two floors. The brunch really happens on the top floor with LIVE music and great views. You can sit with views of the beach or views of the city, you can see tall buildings on sheikh Zayed road. It doesn’t matter where you sit inside the restaurant as you feel sitting in open air with fresh winds blowing in the restaurant from all directions from their open balcony. The restaurant is colorful from head to toe. From the seats, floors, cushions, walls, lighting is all a chic arrangement with a fashion statement. They’ve created a cozy ambience inside the restaurant that makes it a perfect spot to relax and unwind with family and friends.
The MASTI menu book is worth a mention, it felt so premium in the hand. It shows at MASTI they try to elevate your experience at every level. They surely have a specialized mixologists for their drinks menu. You can find variety of colorful drinks on every different table. I can tell you for the mocktails, you need to try the passion fruit Mojito which was really good, in general we felt their drinks were less sweet in nature.
The first section of the brunch is the sharing plates where everything comes on the table and you don’t need to break your head trying to select one. The watermelon and beetroot salad was nice and a pleasant start to our brunch which is a trending salad in most restaurants today. Tangy Cassava chaat was tangy like it said and we really enjoyed it very much. The Tuna tartare was another interesting starter, one thing you notice is how the food is presented and how new flavours were being introduced to your palate. It was truly an exciting start with a modern touch to Indian cuisine along with some fusion to add that zest.
From the hot appetizers you had to pick one. This is where it begins to get tough cause everything in the menu sounds mouth watering. The Paneer Tikka was so tempting that when it came to our table nobody waited for me to take the picture, so you get to see above just one from the 5 cubes of Paneer available in the Smokey Chiptole Paneer Tikka plate. The fiery prawns were not as exciting as we expected, this was the only dish we thought could get better. The Baos are not to be missed, the Brisket bhatti spiced Bao was out of this world. Those spiced briskets were heavily stuffed into the fluffy Bao, which made them flow out of the Bao as you bite them from one side. The Bao appetizers were just amazing and a must try!
The two mains you must try would be their Butter Chicken and the Beef Pepper fry. Sometimes I felt there was a little too much of pepper on the Beef pepper fry but the beef itself was really tender and juicy, that you just couldn’t stop picking it. The beef experience in the beef brisket bao and the beef pepper fry are totally different, in taste and texture. Both have been amazing. What was also commendable was the accompanied crispy Parathas with the Beef Pepper Fry. Parathas come hot and crispy, the sooner you eat the better, as they get tougher while they get cold. The Lamb Biriyani came with a single piece of lamb in it. Frankly we appreciated the rice more than the lamb in it. After all that flavour from Butter Chicken and beef Pepper Fry, the lamb felt less exciting although not bad.
The desserts here are one of a kind. Rasmali has always been my favourite Indian dessert, but the one here is not the kind of Rasmalai you imagine. It’s a Rasmalai cake along with hazelnut-chocolate truffle and chocolate soil that made an attractive combination. The chocolate in this dessert was more of a dry form, so there wasn’t really much for a chocolate fan but gives you a nice contrasting taste between white coconut cake and a pure chocolate. MASTI also makes amazing in house ice creams. It’s funny but the homemade pineapple-saffron sorbet was more exciting for me than the chocolate ganache. It’s a dark chocolate ganache and you need to be really into chocolate to like it. The best dessert was definitely the choco lotus delight. The secret was the quality of chocolate. The chocolate in the choco lotus delight was more enjoyable and rich in taste. It’s more of a milk chocolate as opposed to chocolate delice which was a darker one. The choco lotus delight also comes with a separate salted toffee sauce poured on top, while the vanilla ice cream that came along this dessert was also a delightful one.
We then ended our brunch with a fine coffee and tea. Hot drinks are covered as part of their brunch and the blossoming tea was a fantastic hot drink to end with at MASTI.
