Mercato is the right restaurant at the right place. Located at a business district, Mercato stands up to the location by offering quick and easy delicious treat to Euro-Italian cuisine. They offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and their menu is typical European, consisting of viennoiserie pastries, pasta, pizza, breads, Jam, cakes, tarts and homemade gelatos. A long list of coffee, if you enjoy milk in your coffee then they do have some special ones.
Breads, sandwiches, salads and cakes are all visible at their counter for you to see. Although they have a printed menu, many of their items are made fresh which is updated on the chalk board found behind the counter. Their cookies and croissants available at the cash counter are highly tempting. It’s most likely those who go to pay at the counter will end up buying something. They’ve got two long benches suitable for a group of people, you can also sit outside their restaurant. Situated between the DIFC buildings, Diners get reasonable shade between the buildings. The restaurant stands out for it’s vibrant colors of blue, green and red. The gelato station outside is a famous one.
They have very well understood their surrounding and serve some beautiful coffee that just makes your day and very well can tune you up for the next meeting. Although they make some fine juices and smoothies, we just went for their signature coffee to test some of them. You must definitely try their Affogato which is fantastic combination of hot coffee and cold ice cream. The Affogato was simply luscious. We had lot of expectation when we ordered and saw the Ice coffee Gelato but it didn’t stay up to it’s good looks. It’s was more watery in texture and didn’t have enough richness in the sip. The cappuccino was a typical warm coffee but I suggest to try some of their other signature coffee drinks, especially the cold ones.
You need to try one salad from here as they are always made using fresh ingredients which is obvious when you see them. It was more rice than greens in our salad. The black rice seafood salad we had was quite a heavy filling. Plenty of black rice and you should order this if you are really hungry. The pasta was out of this world. I am talking about the spinach and ricotta pasta which was one of the best experience, in terms of flavor and how the sauce on top of it made it even more delicious. Also their pizzas are commendable. They make great Italians pizzas here and it’s worth a try.
The Chocolate Almond Tart was soft and just addictive. The only one issue with their chocolate tart was it was too sweet. The chocolate was great but the sweetness was overpowering the whole experience. The same case was with their chunky chocolate cookie. You know they are made wonderful but at the same time you can feel plenty of sugar in it. I think it would be great if they can reduce the sugar or sweetness levels to perfect their desserts.
