Kaftan – Jumeirah

Breakfast at Kaftan Jumeirah

I couldn’t ask for a better start to the day. It was a delightful breakfast we had at Kaftan on Jumeirah Road. Turkish Cuisine has always been my favourite and Kaftan is no exception when it comes to serving excellent Turkish dishes. A plush restaurant driven by true Ottoman spirit. This is the original branch of Kaftan before they opened a second branch at La Mer, Dubai.

Kaftan Jumeirah

Located just opposite to the famous Burj Al Arab. We preferred to sit outside in the courtyard of the restaurant surrounded by beautiful weather. The inside of the restaurant is lush and grand but if the climate is good then nothing like sitting in their courtyard. Occasionally you will find birds moving around empty tables but they don’t really bother tables that are occupied. Kaftan has a kids play area which can keep your little ones busy.

Complimentary fresh breads
Turkish Tea – complimentary with breakfast
Smoothie(AED 28) and Mocktail(AED 35)

They have a selection of smoothies and Moctkails. We felt the mocktail was much better than their Smoothie. Our breakfast started with their complimentary breads reaching our table. These breads were fresh and warm, they really entice you to eat more with their quality. We loved each of their different breads but we didn’t find any stuffed breads like how we did find in some other Turkish restaurants in Dubai.Let’s not forget it’s unlimited Turkish Tea during breakfast.

Cig Borek – AED 36 – Deep fried mouth watering thin, flaky dough filled with minced meat and finely chopped onions

Tahin & Pekmez – AED 27 – Toasted Turkish pta dipped in mix of roasted dark sesame seed tahini with organic grapes molasses

Cig Borek was a hot starter. The minced meat in it was lovely and kids would love them easily as it also wasn’t spicy for them. The real magic for me was their Tahin & Pakmez which was a sweet treat. Thick, smooth as galaxy and tasted so rich. It was a new taste, something that you don’t find everywhere. This is a must order and you are going to love it!

Citir Pastirma – AED 39 – Layers of thin crust dough topped with cherry tomatoes, Turkish beef pastrami and sunny side up egg garnished with parsley and capsicum

Man of the match and the center of attraction was actually the Citir Pastirma. The presentation in itself was unique and an eye catcher. A Turkish classic which you shouldn’t miss ordering at Kaftan. You are going to love the beef and that thin flaky base. It’s a simply dish with a unique presentation and that quality beef on it makes a statement.

Mihlama – AED 39 – Fine Corn Flour pan stirred with butter and mihlama cheese
Bal & Kaymak – AED 42 – An organic honeycomb with thick and fresh Turkish dairy cream

The Mihlama is a favourite to some. It’s a override of cheese and you just overload your bread with cheese and melt them in your mouth. I think they can make this dish more interesting if they can add some more spices or flavour to it. Otherwise felt it bland when compared to their other dishes. Nobody can not order honeycomb and cream from a Turkish restaurant. It’s a must have item in all Turkish menus. The honeycomb was great but their Turkish cream felt like a cube of butter and I thought they should find a better formula for their cream.

Cheese Kunefe – AED 42

Pasa Kadayif – AED 75 – thin strands of shredded phyllo dough filled with crushed pistachio, baked in a copper pan until crispy served with Maras ice cream(goat milk)

Kaftan has an interesting collection of desserts. Infact some of them you only find it here such as the Pasa Kadayif. There is a lot of pistachio in this one. It’s mainly Pistachio, phyllo dough and pure goat milk ice cream that’s make this dessert so special. Big enough to share with a group of friends. It’s unique and you are going to love it. The cheese Kunefe was average. Maybe it was the experience of the Pasa Kadayif that was over powering the experience and taste.

Cappuccino – AED 25

They also make amazing coffee. We ended our meal with Cappuccino which was really good. Click here to visit their official website. Click pictures to see them in full screen view:
